What sort of peripherals should I be aware of for my mobile phone?

OEM - Original Equipment Manufacturer. For our purposes we can describe it through quality. Generally (meaning not all the time, don’t tell us we didn’t tell you) OEM symbolizes products that are of superior make from recognized manufacturers. So, for example, Motorola manufactures wireless handsets (mobile phones, cell phones) and also makes accessories for those products, such as chargers and cases. Well those accessories would be OEM. However, there are Aftermarket manufacturers who specialize in making accessories of equal or better quality than their OEM manufacturer counterparts at a lower price. However, there are aftermarket products, which are of really low quality (think the old adage – “you get what you pay for”). The famous Payless versus Brand (Let’s say Nike) example makes the most sense. Payless is a vendor of generic brand shoes, but they are not known for their quality, rather they are the cheaper alternative to Brand name shoes. Nike makes shoes that are (generally speaking) of good quality and has a reputation to match.

Aftermarket – After reading the definition of OEM we can safely conclude that aftermarket products are manufactured by those other than OEM manufacturers. Now remember, the quality varies. Just like not all OEM products are the best quality, neither are aftermarket products. There is the good, the bad and the hideous. The advantage of the aftermarket phenomenon is that it an alternative to OEM products at a (generally speaking) lower price. Also aftermarket products allow for customizability beyond what OEM products (Let’s say accessories) allow you to do.

Chargers – Definitely amongst the essentials. A discharged device is a drag for wireless gab (communication). So make sure for your wireless devices (phones, Bluetooth headsets, etc.) you have a charger. Most devices come with a standard wall charger. Also available are auxiliary chargers

Cases – All shapes and sizes to fit your need or fancy. Cases most help carry and protect a mobile phone. However, like clothing, accessories also hint at your style and reflect your personality.

Batteries – Batteries are essential when you’re on the go. In a world constantly moving with people on their wireless devices constantly an extra battery (tiny energy sources that make your device work) comes in handy.

Antenna Boosters – While their reliability is suspect, antenna boosters (the little stickers that go in the back of a phone), can’t hurt your phone and to place one in the battery holding of your cell phone can’t hurt. However, a tiny antenna booster can’t make up for bad service or a faulty phone.

Bluetooth Earpiece – Wireless earpiece that function on Bluetooth technology that enable and individual to talk truly hands free. No hands, no wires.

I for one would love to be able to text 911. I am deaf, and there are many circumstances where I could use a cell phone for texting. I manage a fairly large Mobile Home Park, and many times I wish I had a text phone to call emergency, because I feel threatened.
