NewScientistTech reports Nokia is proposing a warning system that will detect lightning strikes. How so you may ask? A Lightning bolt is an electric current which emits radio waves; the proposed system will detect these waves and process it on a cell phone application that will give information if the lightning strikes are nearing. Basically, there are many receivers in phones such as Bluetooth, FM, GSM, etc., which can be tuned to pick up the radio waves.

In a recent study by a team at the University of California, Irvine led by Oladele Ogunseitan, tested 34 phones and reported that they could ooze enough unregulated pollutants like copper, zinc, etc. into water supplies posing a serious health risk (New Scientist ). With tons of recycling programs many people are still unaware of how to dispose of their cell phone, which can be a big concern as more people start to rid their phones for a newer, slicker phones.
