Not too long ago we congratulated Motorola on their comeback from a long slump with the advent of their thin RAZR design. Its popularity and attractiveness are understandable. Great design and good looks. But where do we draw the line when innovation becomes renovation? Allow me to explain. When the RAZR came out a few years ago, it started a trend.
Cell phone manufacturers, Motorola being at the forefront, started making thinner phones. They had to, seeing the popular demand the RAZR had in the marketplace. But now it’s old and Motorola has come out with the KRZR and now the RIZR. Don’t get me wrong, the phones in themselves are great, functional and different. But they are a spin off the old RAZR after all. The KRZR is a tad smaller while boasting mp3 capabilities, and better camera display, while the RIZR is based on the KRZR or should we say RAZR mold, but slides open and hence its name. Maybe when christening their latest and greatest, Motorola should be a little more innovative.
