Four weeks after its release and already there's talk about an iPhone Nano on the web. The whole thing started with a report by a JP Morgan analyst, Steve Chang, who claimed to have spoken to contacts in the "supply channel" as well as studied reviews of certain apple patents pointing to an iphone Nano. After that, the web's been speculating various scenarios as to what the new iPhone would possess. Magic touchscreen? iPod Nano dial? Some Naysayers, such as a report by JP Morgan a week later, directly conflicted with the earlier report. But here's where the truth lies.
As new products such as the iPhone come out, they age at an ever increasing pace. Something newer comes out and replaces it. If there is one important function that these phones play is that they introduce into the market a new feature or new design. For example, after Motorola's RAZR line, the world went a craze for thin phones. Other manufacturer's followed suit and designed similarly thin phones to keep up with demand. Motorola responded with many RAZR type phones in various color schemes and brands (think D&G). Now, one cool feature of the iPhone is the wide touchscreen. It has nearly no protruding buttons, a stylistic impression of the iPod. But now that the iPhone is out, you will see other manufacturer's respond in kind. This will cause, overtime, for Apple to loose market share and due to less demand, they will definitely drop prices (this is how it nearly always works). Apple will most probably (unless they're really stupid and past performance says otherwise) has already foreseen such a scenario and is already in the works for an iPhone range. In it the idea of a less expensive line would have crossed their minds. The point is, they want to capture the market (yet again), with whatever is going to be for Apple their new shining product. Keep in mind that the world is going through convergence, where all gadgetry is converging (duh!), as we have repeatedly talked about on WiGab. And now that only mP3 players are things of the past, it's very plausible that Apple will look to other things they can saturate the world with. It's just around the corner, so brace yourselves.
