Lately we see it everywhere. Mobile Web 2.0. Bananas 2.0. Blasphemy 2.0. Etc. Etc. Etc. There are many informational sites out there with an almost synthetic 2.0 label because it looks “Oh so cool.” Perhaps telling people what it’s all about makes a bit more sense.
With the advent of the world wide web, last century, internet expanded to develop into social networks. Where sites were mainly spawns of groups of likeminded and not so likeminded people. This is the distinguishing factor. See, that wasn’t so hard. Here is what we mean. With businesses and commerce websites adopting the world wide web, primarily producing content and receiving one way interaction, web 2.0 is a claimant, to a collaborative web experience, the way internet was originally envisioned, a “democratic” channel where communities or groups participate and develop trends, content, networks, and more. A case in point would be wikipedia, which has done a phenomenal job in creating a user-created infobase on all things. Webopedia 2.0 … Ahmm.
The 2.0 of course is only a label that means an update of the original world wide web in the fashion that software has updated versions. But the misnomer 2.0 is old, boring and uninspiring. The idea remains and will be improve, nevertheless, it should be rechristened something else. Any takers?
