Crisis and Wireless Functionality
If at this very moment a disaster hits you, are you prepared? We hope you never have to go through one, but just the stress involved during such and ordeal can be fatal. Being ready is better than not being prepared. We're sure you agree. The first reaction during a disaster like a hurricane is people calling in and out of the area hit. But if everyone does this at once it will overload the phone networks. This can be bad for everyone, but it can be prevented by the following:

Before a Disaster
- Have an emergency contact outside your area
Ask someone outside your area to be a central contact. Provide this contact a list of people you would like to contact in case their is a crisis to let them know you're doing ok.

- Get a battery-powered radio
Make sure to get enough batteries or get a crank radio. You will be able to listen to the latest news and disaster information.

After a Disaster
- Call 911 for help but not for news
A common mistake during a disaster is to call 911 just for informational purposes. This will strain the phone networks and trust me you don't want to bring down the network.

- Be Patient
Typically, there will always be a network overload so be patient if you can't get through the first time. In case you're calling from a land line it might take longer to complete a call. Here's what to listen for to determine if a call can be placed:

Normal dial tone: place your call
Silence: wait for dial tone; don't hang up as it will further delay your call
Fast busy signal: Try again later
A recording: Try again later
